Jeremiah Sees Fishers and Hunters at the Lakeby emmanuel_higgins

Jeremiah 16:16

Behold, I will send for many fishers, saith the LORD, and they shall fish them; and after will I send for many hunters, and they shall hunt them from every mountain, and from every hill, and out of the holes of the rocks.

The promise is that God will send first many fishers to fish for people and afterward many hunters to hunt them from every mountain and hill and out of the holes of the rocks, and this seeking and bringing in is the work of winning souls. Fishing and hunting means active, personal labor to seek people out, live the gospel before them, and work for their good, not merely preaching sermons to them. The call is for willing laborers to go out like fishers and hunters, including those who have not been ordained, both ministers and church members together.

The seeking work is urgent and calls for diligent, courageous, unselfish labor as true shepherds watching for souls. Those who know the truth are responsible to seek souls near them and wherever they can, rather than neglecting opportunities to reach them. They are to warn those lost in ignorance of Bible truth of God's requirements.

Canvasser-evangelists fulfill this sending by carrying the message from family to family to find souls, share the truth, and bring people to the Saviour. Their humble, prayerful work can reach people whom camp meetings do not reach, and they may expect success through Christ's promised presence. Workers with a burden for souls are in this way to go into new places fishing and hunting for men, especially into cities where the message has not yet been carried.

The same searching includes traveling through the forests to reach families hungering for truth, to find lost sheep, and to gather them to the marriage supper of the Lamb. It applies to finding souls in Battle Creek and helping them hear and understand Bible truth, including both believers and unbelievers who are exposed to temptation or open to the truth.

The aim is to bring sinners back to Christ, to save lost perishing souls, to increase them in spirituality, and to warn the ignorant of God's requirements. The work includes giving the Jews the light of truth, so that many are convinced and take their stand for God. When workers labor in this unselfish, diligent way, the cause advances in every line and the word goes with power to God's glory.
