Jeremiah 16:19
O LORD, my strength, and my fortress, and my refuge in the day of affliction, the Gentiles shall come unto thee from the ends of the earth, and shall say, Surely our fathers have inherited lies, vanity, and things wherein there is no profit.
The Lord is addressed as personal strength, as fortress, and as refuge for the time of affliction. Strength means the power He supplies, fortress means the defense He provides, and refuge means the shelter He opens in the day of distress. These three names together present Him as the one to be relied upon when pressure comes.
For physicians this address carries assurance that reliance on God makes it possible to stand firm under temptation. Trusting in Him as strength steadies the will, abiding in Him as fortress guards against yielding, and fleeing to Him as refuge preserves integrity in affliction.
