Jeremiah 16:20

Shall a man make gods unto himself, and they are no gods?

Jeremiah 16 belongs to the exposure of Israel's idolatry, and the question exposes the folly of people fashioning deities for themselves, for gods made by human hands are not truly gods at all. It is a clear prophecy denouncing sin, uttered in sorrow of heart over the people's transgression and making a touching appeal to return to God, an appeal the mass of the people meet with utter lack of response.

The verse also shows in type the blotting out of sins in the heavenly sanctuary. There the cases of the righteous dead are decided as their names come before the Father. The last acts of Christ as priest are the blotting out of the individual sins of the righteous living and the removing of the remembrance of all the sins of the righteous from the sanctuary.
