Jeremiah 16:7
Neither shall men tear themselves for them in mourning, to comfort them for the dead; neither shall men give them the cup of consolation to drink for their father or for their mother. Neither shall men tear themselves for them in mourning, to comfort them for the dead; neither shall men give them the cup of consolation to drink for their father or for their mother.
Jeremiah 16:7 stands within chapters 3 to 21, among clear prophecies that utter awful denunciations against sin, express heartfelt sorrow over the people's transgression, and make touching appeals to return to God that the mass of the people did not answer. The cup of consolation is the Saviour Himself, His grace, and the bread of life as given in the bread and cup of communion.
That cup is not for the home table alone but for millions of sad, hungry, yearning, and despairing women in Persia, Africa, India, China, and all the earth who have been omitted and have never had it broken to them. To withhold it leaves them without provision, worn with weeping, dark with sin and dread, hopeless, uncomforted, and dying fast. They stretch out their hands and cry for Christ, the Desire of every nation, that they may take and live.
