Jeremiah 18:21

Therefore deliver up their children to the famine, and pour out their blood by the force of the sword; and let their wives be bereaved of their children, and be widows; and let their men be put to death; let their young men be slain by the sword in battle.

The imprecation belongs to the long series of terrible condemnations of sin found in Jeremiah 3-21. Those condemnations sprang from anguish of heart over the transgression of his own people. They were joined with his most tender and moving plea for them to come back to God. That plea met with complete unresponsiveness from the mass of the people.
