Jeremiah 18:22
Let a cry be heard from their houses, when thou shalt bring a troop suddenly upon them: for they have digged a pit to take me, and hid snares for my feet. Let a cry be heard from their houses, when thou shalt bring a troop suddenly upon them: for they have digged a pit to take me, and hid snares for my feet.
The verse belongs to Jeremiah's chapters warning Israel that willful sin will soon be punished by Babylon, the swift avenger. In that setting it is an awful denunciation against sin. It reveals Jeremiah's sorrow of heart over his people's transgression. At the same time it makes a touching appeal for the people to return to God. The mass of the people leave that appeal unanswered.
