Jeremiah 19:1

The Lord directed Jeremiah to obtain an earthen bottle fashioned by a potter and to take along with him elders from among the people and elders from among the priests. The earthen vessel was to serve as a visible illustration of what would befall the nation. After setting before those leaders a review of Judah's apostasy, he was to shatter the bottle to demonstrate that God would break the people and Jerusalem beyond any possibility of repair. He was then to declare that judgment was coming upon them because they had hardened themselves against God's words.
