Jeremiah 19:3

And say, Hear ye the word of the LORD, O kings of Judah, and inhabitants of Jerusalem; Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will bring evil upon this place, the which whosoever heareth, his ears shall tingle.

The call is directed to the kings of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem to listen to the word of the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel. He declares that He will bring evil upon that place because its people have refused to hear His words. The evil announced is a devastating judgment, a doom whose meaning and severity the warning is meant to make clear. Yet the multitudes who hear it struggle to grasp its full import.
