Jeremiah 2:3

In its early devotion Israel was holy unto the Lord, consecrated and set apart for Him alone. It was as the first portion of His harvest increase, belonging to Him by special right. All who devoured or attacked that people incurred guilt and gave offense against God. Evil was to come upon such offenders, by the Lord's own sure word.
