Jeremiah 21:10
For I have set my face against this city for evil, and not for good, saith the LORD: it shall be given into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall burn it with fire. For I have set my face against this city for evil, and not for good, saith the LORD: it shall be given into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall burn it with fire.
Jeremiah 21:10 belongs to the book's warnings to Judah, to the Jews. It is one of the prophecies that plainly denounce sin and reflect sorrow over the people's transgression. Its chapter is not placed in chronological order, for in chronological sequence chapter 21 comes after chapters 27 and 28 and before chapter 34.
It declares that the Lord has set His face against Jerusalem for evil and not for good, determining its destruction rather than deliverance, and that the city will be given into the hand of the king of Babylon and burned with fire. During the siege, its accompanying message was that those who stayed in the city would die, while those who surrendered to the Chaldeans would live. The people's refusal to believe and their hope that Egypt would rescue them could not change the city's decreed fate.
