Jeremiah 22:11
For thus saith the LORD touching Shallum the son of Josiah king of Judah, which reigned instead of Josiah his father, which went forth out of this place; He shall not return thither any more: For thus saith the LORD touching Shallum the son of Josiah king of Judah, which reigned instead of Josiah his father, which went forth out of this place; He shall not return thither any more:
In Jeremiah the declaration belongs to the section after chapter 20 that recounts Jeremiah's experiences in Judah as the weeping prophet. Although the chapters from chapter 20 onward are not arranged chronologically, in chronological order it comes after chapter 20 and before chapters 23, 25, 26, 35, 36, 45, 24, 29, 30, 31, 27, 28, 21, 34, 37, 32, 33, 38 and the rest. It stands among the sad conditions in Judah that caused weeping — false prophets, utter repudiation of God's law and the principles of righteousness, and persecutions of the prophet himself — preserved to show the awful enormity of sin and its sure consequences.
Shallum is Jehoahaz, the son of Josiah king of Judah who reigned in place of his father Josiah. The declaration is that after reigning, Shallum was taken away from the land and would never return to it. His removal without return shows that the end of Josiah's reign marked the end of Judah's ability to keep the release years and Jubilees.
