Jeremiah 22:18
Therefore thus saith the LORD concerning Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah; They shall not lament for him, saying, Ah my brother! or, Ah sister! they shall not lament for him, saying, Ah lord! or, Ah his glory! Therefore thus saith the LORD concerning Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah; They shall not lament for him, saying, Ah my brother! or, Ah sister! they shall not lament for him, saying, Ah lord! or, Ah his glory!
Therefore the Lord pronounced sentence concerning Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah that at his death none would lament him with the cry of family grief, Ah my brother or Ah sister, nor with the cry of royal honor, Ah lord or Ah his glory. The sentence fell when doom threatened princes and people, at a time when Jehoiakim should have led in confession of sin, reformation and good works, yet instead he gave himself to selfish pleasure. He built for himself a wide house with large chambers, ceiled with cedar and painted with vermilion, accomplished by unrighteousness and fraud and oppression and by using his neighbor's service without wages.
This stood in contrast to his father, who ate and drank while doing judgment and justice and judging the cause of the poor and needy, and this was to know God, so that he prospered. But Jehoiakim's eyes and heart were set only on covetousness, on shedding innocent blood, and on oppression and violence. For this he would be buried with the burial of a donkey, drawn and cast forth beyond the gates of Jerusalem.
