Jeremiah 22:20

Go up to Lebanon, and cry; and lift up thy voice in Bashan, and cry from the passages: for all thy lovers are destroyed.

The verse belongs to the section spanning Jeremiah 12 to 24. In chronological order its chapter comes directly after Jeremiah 20, although the chapters from Jeremiah 20 onward are not arranged in chronological order. It is to be read together with Jeremiah 23.

It arises from Jeremiah's weeping over the sad conditions in Judah, including false prophets, utter repudiation of God's law and the principles of righteousness, and persecutions of Jeremiah himself. It is a warning to the Jews, left as a record to show the awful enormity of sin and its sure consequences. Its warning and appeal applies to the present day.
