Jeremiah 22:9

Then they shall answer, Because they have forsaken the covenant of the LORD their God, and worshipped other gods, and served them.

Jeremiah 22 shows that after Josiah's reign ended in 607 B.C. the Jews forsook God's commandments and no longer kept the years of release or Jubilee, so that their Sabbaths and Jubilees ceased at that point. When judgment and destruction and scattering came upon Israel, the answer given is that it was because they had forsaken the covenant of the Lord their God and had worshiped other gods and served them. That abandonment of the covenant and worship and service of other gods brought the judgment described in the chapter. Their idolatry and disobedience brought upon them the curse and removal from the land that God had warned would follow breaking His law.
