Jeremiah 23:27
Which think to cause my people to forget my name by their dreams which they tell every man to his neighbour, as their fathers have forgotten my name for Baal. Which think to cause my people to forget my name by their dreams which they tell every man to his neighbour, as their fathers have forgotten my name for Baal.
False dreams and pretended revelations claiming divine origin turn God's people away from Him and cause them to forget His name. They mislead those who receive them, drawing minds from loyalty to God into deception. These counterfeits can closely imitate genuine manifestations of the Spirit, so that the resemblance makes discernment difficult. They mingle sacred things with what is common or even ridiculous, join censure and reproof with flattering promises, and blend truth with error. An air of holiness about them is no proof that they come from God, for their effect is to ensnare souls and lead them into false paths.
