Jeremiah 23:35
Thus shall ye say every one to his neighbour, and every one to his brother, What hath the LORD answered? and, What hath the LORD spoken? Thus shall ye say every one to his neighbour, and every one to his brother, What hath the LORD answered? and, What hath the LORD spoken?
The prophecies in Jeremiah 22-39 are not placed in chronological order because of the way the manuscript rolls were gathered together into one book. In time chapter 23 comes after chapters 20 and 22 and before chapter 25, the chapter itself shows its time, and the displacement makes no change in its teaching. It stands among the warnings to the Jews in chapters 12 to 24, in a book that abounds in striking symbols and signs and figures of speech.
It is included among the passages describing false prophets, who profane the sanctuary, violate God's law, despise God, lead His people astray, and strengthen the wicked. The chapter illustrates the false prophet's cry of peace and assurance in a time of danger. Its warning and appeal carries the assurance of the heavenly Father's kindness and everlasting love and is peculiarly applicable to the present day.
The chapters around it include Messianic prophecies carried forward through the restoration from Babylon to the more glorious restoration under Christ Jesus our Lord. It belongs to the scriptural basis for the restoration of Israel by Jesus as a specifically revealed agent, and for the gathering that includes the resurrection at His second advent.
