Jeremiah 23:39
Therefore, behold, I, even I, will utterly forget you, and I will forsake you, and the city that I gave you and your fathers, and cast you out of my presence: Therefore, behold, I, even I, will utterly forget you, and I will forsake you, and the city that I gave you and your fathers, and cast you out of my presence:
Jeremiah 23:39 belongs to the warnings to the Jews given in Jeremiah 12 to 24. It stands within the Jeremiah 22 to 39 section whose prophecies are not placed in chronological order. Chapters up to chapter 20 are in fairly chronological order, but from chapter 20 to chapter 46 the time order runs 20, 22, 23, 25, 26 and onward, so chapter 23 stands chronologically after chapters 20 and 22 and before chapter 25. The disorder arose because matter from Zedekiah's reign was placed before matter from Jehoiakim's reign when the ancient scrolls were transposed as they were gathered together by Ezra and others.
The section includes Messianic prophecies carried forward through the restoration from Babylon to the more glorious restoration under Christ Jesus the Lord. The verse declares that the prophets who falsely promise peace will be cast out of God's presence. Its warning and appeal applies peculiarly to the present day.
