Jeremiah 23:5

Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will raise unto David a righteous Branch, and a King shall reign and prosper, and shall execute judgment and justice in the earth.

God will raise unto David a righteous Branch who is a King, and that King shall reign and prosper and shall execute judgment and justice in the earth. The promise was given with Judah's downfall and exile coming, and it looks beyond that ruin to restoration and deliverance. In that restoration God will gather His scattered people from the countries where they were driven and bring them to live securely, and the coming King is presented as their hope.

In his days Judah shall be saved and Israel shall dwell safely and securely. His name by which he shall be called is The Lord Our Righteousness. That Branch is Jesus Christ, the coming Redeemer. He is the promised Messiah, the Prince of Life and the Redeemer of the world.

He gave His life to redeem all who repent. The prophecy answers the question, Who is Jesus. It was proclaimed with inspiration by His disciples in His triumphal procession to Jerusalem, when the rulers confronted it as it was about to descend the Mount of Olives.
