Jeremiah Offers the Cup of Wine to the Nationsby emmanuel_higgins

Jeremiah 25:16

And they shall drink, and be moved, and be mad, because of the sword that I will send among them.

The drinking in the verse pictures the fate of nations as draining a cup filled with the wine of divine wrath. The cup of woe is presented because the plainly pronounced sentence of doom could scarcely be understood, so that a deeper impression might be made. Jerusalem with the cities of Judah and their kings are among the first to drink from the cup. After them Pharaoh king of Egypt with his servants and princes and all his people, along with many other nations of the earth, drink in turn until God's purpose is fulfilled.
