Jeremiah Offers the Cup of Wine to the Nationsby emmanuel_higgins

Jeremiah 25:21

Edom, and Moab, and the children of Ammon,

Edom, Moab, and the children of Ammon were among the many other nations of earth appointed to partake of the cup filled with the wine of divine wrath until God's purpose should have been fulfilled. Jerusalem and the cities of Judah and the kings thereof were among the first to drink, followed by Pharaoh king of Egypt with his servants and his princes and all his people, and then the other nations. The cup likens the fate of a nation to the draining of woe. The doom was set forth in this symbolic way because the clearly pronounced sentence could scarcely be understood by the multitudes who heard, that a deeper impression might be made. This verse belongs to the prophecy by which Daniel learned that Jerusalem's seventy years of captivity were nearing their close.
