Jeremiah 25:37

And the peaceable habitations are cut down because of the fierce anger of the LORD.

The cutting down of the peaceable habitations belongs to a doom pronounced on Judah pictured as draining a cup filled with the wine of divine wrath until God's purpose is fulfilled. Jerusalem and the cities of Judah and their kings drink first, then Pharaoh king of Egypt with his servants and princes and people, and then many other nations of the earth. The cutting down is a swift-coming judgment that breaks the people and the city like a potter's earthen bottle dashed to pieces that cannot be made whole again. It is brought upon the city and all her towns because they hardened their necks and would not hear God's words. The doom is so awful that its import could scarcely be understood without illustration.
