When word of Jeremiah's message reached them, the princes of Judah went up from the king's house to the house of the Lord and took their seats at its entrance. Their coming brought men in authority into the dispute over the prophet's life. It placed them where they could hear the charge brought against him and his answer, and so opened the way for his defense. Their influence then helped turn the people in his favor, and by that means his life was protected.
