As for me, behold, I am in your hand: do with me as seemeth good and meet unto you.
The words were spoken before the princes of Judah and the people, after the priests and the prophets had declared Jeremiah worthy to die for prophesying against the city. In them he willingly yields himself and his life into their hands, to do with him as seems good and right to them, submitting himself to their judgment. He does so boldly, refusing to be intimidated by the threatening attitude of those high in authority.
His submission does not weaken his mission, for he stands firm in delivering the solemn warning God sent him to deliver. He would not withdraw the warning or speak falsely to save his life, and he warned that to kill him would bring guilt for innocent blood upon them and upon the city and its inhabitants. His courage in delivering the warning commands the respect of the people and turns the princes in his favor to reason against the extreme measures urged by the priests and false prophets, so that God raises up defenders for His servant, preserving the effect of the message and sparing the prophet's life.
