Jeremiah 26:19

Did Hezekiah king of Judah and all Judah put him at all to death? did he not fear the LORD, and besought the LORD, and the LORD repented him of the evil which he had pronounced against them? Thus might we procure great evil against our souls.

Micah warned of judgment against Jerusalem, yet Hezekiah king of Judah and all Judah did not put him to death for prophesying it. Hezekiah feared the LORD and besought Him, pleading with Him and seeking His mercy and favor. In answer the LORD repented Him of the evil He had pronounced against them and relented from the threatened calamity and judgment He had announced.

Judah's elders cited this precedent when Jeremiah was threatened for his own call to repent. They warned that putting Jeremiah to death instead of heeding him would procure great evil against their own souls. Such a killing would bring great guilt and disaster and harm upon themselves and the people. Through their protest Jeremiah's life was spared.
