Jeremiah 26:3
If so be they will hearken, and turn every man from his evil way, that I may repent me of the evil, which I purpose to do unto them because of the evil of their doings. If so be they will hearken, and turn every man from his evil way, that I may repent me of the evil, which I purpose to do unto them because of the evil of their doings.
God warned Judah that they should listen and that each person should turn from his evil way. If they would listen and fully repent by turning from their evil ways, He would turn from the harm He had purposed against them because of the evil of their doings, withholding the punishment their wickedness had made due. In this way full and genuine repentance is the appointed way to escape deserved retribution. The command shows His reluctance and unwillingness to chastise His erring people, for He delays judgment and chastisement, pleads with them to return to Him and to faithful service, and grants them another opportunity.
