Jeremiah Seized in the Temple Courtby emmanuel_higgins

Jeremiah 26:8

Now it came to pass, when Jeremiah had made an end of speaking all that the LORD had commanded him to speak unto all the people, that the priests and the prophets and all the people took him, saying, Thou shalt surely die.

The moment came when Jeremiah had just finished speaking to all the people everything the Lord had commanded him to speak. The priests and the prophets and all the people then seized him and threatened him with certain death. Their hostility came because they rejected God's warning, which exposed their wrongdoing and announced coming judgment.

The judgment that provoked them was directed against the temple and Jerusalem. They turned against the messenger because they preferred smooth and deceptive prophecies over the truth. They rejected the message because it exposed their wrongdoing and foretold judgment, and turned their anger against the one who delivered it.

The verse shows that God's faithful messengers may face persecution for speaking the truth and must remain faithful even at the cost of reproach or death. God regards falsehood, misrepresentation, and abuse aimed at those who deliver His reproof as done against Himself, and He will punish it.
