Jeremiah Seized in the Temple Courtby emmanuel_higgins

Jeremiah 26:9

Why hast thou prophesied in the name of the LORD, saying, This house shall be like Shiloh, and this city shall be desolate without an inhabitant? And all the people were gathered against Jeremiah in the house of the LORD.

The verse is the angry challenge hurled at Jeremiah for prophesying in the name of the Lord that the house would be made like Shiloh and the city would be left desolate without an inhabitant. The priests and the people gathered together against him in the house of the Lord and demanded his death. The accusers were priests, false prophets, and people, who threatened him with death because he would not speak reassuring lies.

Their hostility meant they despised and rejected God's message of warning and turned against the messenger instead of accepting the warning. They preferred soothing falsehoods to reproof and wanted teachers who would tell them what they wanted to hear. In this it shows how religious leaders and people can oppose truthful reproof.
