Jeremiah 29:21
Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, of Ahab the son of Kolaiah, and of Zedekiah the son of Maaseiah, which prophesy a lie unto you in my name; Behold, I will deliver them into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon; and he shall slay them before your eyes;
Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, concerning Ahab the son of Kolaiah and Zedekiah the son of Maaseiah, who prophesied a lie in His name, that He would deliver them into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and he would slay them before the exiles' eyes. In Babylon they stood against Jeremiah's counsel to submit to Babylon, predicting deliverance and urging the people to reject God's counsel and rebel. They claimed holiness while living corruptly, and turned in opposition to Jeremiah after he condemned their conduct.
The sentence was fulfilled literally, carried out before the captives' eyes. The verse shows that false prophets who encourage rebellion against God's counsel face divine judgment for their lies. It illustrates that false teachers may gain more followers than a faithful messenger, and that those who justify sin and mislead others will face retribution.
