Jeremiah 29:26
The LORD hath made thee priest in the stead of Jehoiada the priest, that ye should be officers in the house of the LORD, for every man that is mad, and maketh himself a prophet, that thou shouldest put him in prison, and in the stocks.
Jeremiah 29:26 stands within a documented exchange of letters between the prophet Jeremiah, the Hebrew captives carried to Babylon, deceiving prophets, and the ruling authorities remaining in Jerusalem. The correspondence records Jeremiah's communication to the exiles and the reactions it provoked among both the captives and the leadership at home. At the heart of the exchange lies the direct confrontation between the true prophet and the false prophets over whose message was from God.
