Jeremiah 3:11

And the LORD said unto me, The backsliding Israel hath justified herself more than treacherous Judah.

Backsliding Israel justified herself more than treacherous Judah, so that Israel was less blameworthy and was judged less severely. Judah's guilt was the greater because of her treachery and betrayal. Judah's guilt was the greater because she did not return to God with the whole heart but only pretended to do so.

The declaration introduces God's call for the unfaithful to acknowledge their wrongdoing and return to Him. That call is merciful, offering forgiveness and restoration to those who repent. The comparison applies to people who profess to belong to God yet remain spiritually blind and turn away from Him, leaving them accountable to acknowledge their sin and return to Him.
