A voice is heard on the high places in weeping and pleading, for the children of Israel have turned aside from the right way and have forgotten the Lord their God. To these backsliding ones God sends the call to return to Him, with the promise that He will heal their unfaithfulness. Their answer is a humble coming back to the Lord with confession of sin and shame for their wrongdoing. In that return they acknowledge that salvation is to be found in the Lord Himself, and not in the hills and mountains where they had sought it.
