Jeremiah 30:16

Therefore all they that devour thee shall be devoured; and all thine adversaries, every one of them, shall go into captivity; and they that spoil thee shall be a spoil, and all that prey upon thee will I give for a prey.

Jeremiah 30:16 stands in the chapters on the restoration of Israel that were ordered to be written down as a book immediately after the interchange of letters with the elders of Israel in captivity and the controversy between the true and the false prophets found in Jeremiah 27-29. That book contains all that had been revealed regarding the restoration of Israel as recorded in Jeremiah 30-31. Within that setting the verse gives a sure promise of Israel's return.

Three-score years and more after those chapters were written, during the first year of Darius the Mede, Daniel prayerfully studied them together with the prophecies of Jeremiah 25. From them he learned the number of the years for accomplishing seventy years in the desolations of Jerusalem. He remained at that time perplexed over how the seventy years of captivity related to the twenty-three hundred years to elapse before the cleansing of God's sanctuary.
