Jeremiah set down in writing the prophecies of Israel's restoration, and this promise of children restored as in former times belongs to that written record. By being thus written, the restoration was made a sure pledge to the exiles rather than a vague hope. The return of the captives was therefore guaranteed beforehand by the prophetic word.
