Jeremiah 30:23

Behold, the whirlwind of the LORD goeth forth with fury, a continuing whirlwind: it shall fall with pain upon the head of the wicked.

Jeremiah 30:23 belongs to the restoration message of Jeremiah 30 and 31, put in book form immediately after the exchange of letters between Jeremiah and the captive elders and the false prophets, containing all that had been revealed about the restoration of Israel. Together with Jeremiah 25, the verse in book form was prayerfully studied by Daniel in the first year of Darius the Mede, more than sixty years after it was written. Daniel had known the circumstances from very soon after the beginning of the Babylonian captivity and knew the promise of return was sure, yet he could not understand the relation of the seventy years of captivity to the twenty-three hundred years to elapse before the cleansing of the sanctuary. The testimonies of Jeremiah were so plain that from them Daniel understood the number of the years for accomplishing seventy years in the desolations of Jerusalem.

The verse describes the whirlwind of the Lord going forth in fury and continuing until it falls painfully on the head of the wicked. It belongs to the coming day of destruction, identified with the seven last plagues and the time of trouble before the appearing of Christ.
