Jeremiah 31:2
Thus saith the LORD, The people which were left of the sword found grace in the wilderness; even Israel, when I went to cause him to rest. Thus saith the LORD, The people which were left of the sword found grace in the wilderness; even Israel, when I went to cause him to rest.
The people left of the sword are Israel, the remnant who survived violence and slaughter, and they found God's grace and favor in the wilderness where He led them and brought them toward rest. That survival and rest were acts of His gracious care, given as assurance of His loving commitment to Israel. The promise stands among Jeremiah's prophecies of Israel's restoration, the same prophecies Daniel studied in connection with the seventy years appointed for Jerusalem's desolation and captivity.
