Jeremiah Seals the Deed in a Clay Jarby emmanuel_higgins

Jeremiah 32:14

Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Take these evidences, this evidence of the purchase, both which is sealed, and this evidence which is open; and put them in an earthen vessel, that they may continue many days.

The command was to take both copies of the purchase deed, the one sealed and the one left open, and secure them together. They were to be put into an earthen vessel precisely so that the records would be preserved and continue for many days. Their careful preservation turned the purchase itself into an enduring sign pointing beyond the imminent destruction and captivity. It testified that the exile would not be the end, for the people would return to the land and once again possess houses and fields and vineyards there.
