Jeremiah 32:15
For thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Houses and fields and vineyards shall be possessed again in this land. For thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Houses and fields and vineyards shall be possessed again in this land.
The promise was given after warnings of destruction, desolation, utter ruin, and long captivity in Babylon, at a time when Jerusalem was under siege for the third and last time and the surrounding territory was already under Babylonian control. Its immediate setting was the purchase of an ancestral field at Anathoth for seventeen shekels of silver, carried out in the presence of witnesses with careful observance of all legal forms. It was spoken to Baruch as the reason to place both the sealed and the open evidences of that purchase in an earthen vessel so that they might continue many days.
It means that houses and fields and vineyards in Judah would again be possessed in the land after the Babylonian captivity. It declares God's purpose to restore to the children of the captivity their ancient possession of the land of promise and to bring the exiles back at the end of the years of affliction to reoccupy the land of their fathers. The purchase itself was an acted parable illustrating strong faith in the ultimate fulfillment of God's purpose. It was made from conviction gained by study of the recorded prophecies and from seeing the return with the eye of faith, though from every human point of view it appeared folly. Jeremiah was advanced in years with no hope of personal benefit from the transaction, and he acted in order to inspire others with the hope that comforted his own heart.
