Jeremiah 32:25
And thou hast said unto me, O Lord GOD, Buy thee the field for money, and take witnesses; for the city is given into the hand of the Chaldeans. And thou hast said unto me, O Lord GOD, Buy thee the field for money, and take witnesses; for the city is given into the hand of the Chaldeans.
Jerusalem was under siege when these words were spoken, and its fall into the hand of the Chaldeans was certain, yet the Lord had commanded that a field be bought for money and that witnesses be taken to the purchase. The command seemed to contradict the city's imminent destruction, putting faith to a severe test and raising the question whether such an act offered false hope to Judah. The purchase was a sign that, despite the coming destruction, the promises of restoration would still be fulfilled.
