Jeremiah 32:30
For the children of Israel and the children of Judah have only done evil before me from their youth: for the children of Israel have only provoked me to anger with the work of their hands, saith the LORD. For the children of Israel and the children of Judah have only done evil before me from their youth: for the children of Israel have only provoked me to anger with the work of their hands, saith the LORD.
The children of Israel and the children of Judah had done only evil before the Lord from their youth, and had provoked Him to anger with the work of their hands. Jerusalem's punishment came as the result of that persistent course of evil, and Nebuchadnezzar was appointed to carry out God's purpose against the city. That long evil issued first in Jehoiakim serving Nebuchadnezzar three years, then rebelling and being carried to Babylon.
It issued further in Jehoiachin rebelling and being carried to Babylon with his court and 10,000 of the people. It issued further in Zedekiah serving eight years, then rebelling, followed by a siege of a year and a half ending in the burning of the temple and the great houses, the breaking down of the walls round about, and the carrying of Zedekiah and many people to Babylon. It issued further in the appointment of Gedaliah over the poor left in the land, his murder by Ishmael, the flight of all the remaining people to Egypt for fear of the Chaldeans, and Nebuchadnezzar's desolation of Egypt after Pharaoh Hophra aided Zedekiah and received Gedaliah's murderers. The verse belongs to the section of Jeremiah covering the history of the two years before Jerusalem fell.
