Jeremiah 32:34

But they set their abominations in the house, which is called by my name, to defile it.

Setting abominations in the house called by God's name to defile it includes a selfish course taken over wages in God's work. Such self-seeking over pay is not a small fault but a defilement of what bears God's name. It is turning the back and not the face to God, refusing to listen and receive instruction even though God teaches persistently, rising up early to teach. It is following self-seeking plans that stand contrary to self-sacrifice and to justice between one person and another. Confederating together to raise wages and so rob God's treasury displeases God, causes evil angels to exult, and brings God's judgment for these things.
