The coming Babylonian captivity would not cancel the divine purpose to restore Israel. Even with exile ahead, the covenant bond was to stand and find fulfillment in restoration. The scattered would be gathered out of all the countries where they had been driven. Brought back to their own land, they would dwell there in safety, and there God would renew the covenant relation so that they would belong to Him as His people and He would be their God.
