Jeremiah 32:43

And fields shall be bought in this land, whereof ye say, It is desolate without man or beast; it is given into the hand of the Chaldeans.

Jerusalem was soon to fall into the hand of the Chaldeans, its gates and palaces to be burned and its inhabitants to be carried away captive, until the land would be called desolate without man or beast, yet the eternal purpose of God for Israel was still to be fulfilled. The desolation spoken of was not the end, for the same certainty that belonged to the threatened disaster belonged to the restoration. As surely as all this great evil was brought upon the people, so all the good promised to them would be brought upon them. That promised good meant gathering them out of all countries where they had been driven in anger and bringing them again to dwell safely as His people.

They would be given one heart and one way, to live in reverence toward Him forever. An everlasting covenant would be made to do them good, and with rejoicing over them they would be planted assuredly in the land. As the concrete outcome, fields would again be bought in that land for money, with deeds subscribed and sealed and witnesses taken. This buying would take place in the land of Benjamin and in the places about Jerusalem, in the cities of Judah and in the cities of the mountains and in the cities of the valley and in the cities of the south, for their captivity would be caused to return.
