Jeremiah 33:11

The voice of joy, and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom, and the voice of the bride, the voice of them that shall say, Praise the LORD of hosts: for the LORD is good; for his mercy endureth for ever: and of them that shall bring the sacrifice of praise into the house of the LORD. For I will cause to return the captivity of the land, as at the first, saith the LORD.

The promise was given while Jeremiah was shut up under close guard during the third and final Chaldean siege of Jerusalem, when hope had fled from every heart and utter ruin was predicted. It was spoken to the faithful remnant still in the city, that they should not be left to hopeless despair. After Jerusalem and Judah have been laid waste, the Lord will cause the captivity of the land to return as at the first, and the deserted streets will again be filled with ordinary daily life and joyful worship, with the voices of gladness and of bridegroom and bride, and with those who praise the Lord of hosts for His goodness and enduring mercy and who bring the sacrifice of praise into His house. In this it reveals heaven's willingness to forgive and to save.

It declares that the Lord is good and His mercy endures forever, showing the path of holiness to be good, which Christians in every condition, even through trials endured for His name, can affirm. So it continues as an unfailing source of comfort to the church of God. As part of the larger passage of promises in Jeremiah 33:6-16, it is to be meditated upon and claimed by living faith, with assurance that God will give the needed blessing and light to heart and mind.
