The pledge secures that the Levitical priests will never lack a man to stand before God in service. That unfailing presence is for offering burnt offerings, for kindling grain offerings, and for doing sacrifice continually. The priestly continuance is joined to the assurance of an enduring ruler from the line of David. Together the abiding priesthood and the abiding kingship form Jeremiah's testimony pointing forward to the coming Redeemer.
