Jeremiah 33:9
And it shall be to me a name of joy, a praise and an honour before all the nations of the earth, which shall hear all the good that I do unto them: and they shall fear and tremble for all the goodness and for all the prosperity that I procure unto it.
The promise was given while Jeremiah was in prison in the closing years of Judah's apostasy, when the Chaldean armies had come for the third and last time to besiege Jerusalem and hope had fled from every heart. He had predicted utter ruin and urged surrender, and those who scorned his messages had thrown him into prison and kept him under close surveillance. Even then God did not leave the faithful remnant still in the city to hopeless despair, but gave fresh revelation of heaven's willingness to forgive and to save.
The restoration and all the good and prosperity God procures for Judah and Jerusalem become to Him a name of joy, a praise and an honor before all the nations of the earth. When the nations hear all the good He does for His people, they fear and tremble in awe and reverence for His goodness and for the prosperity He provides. That promise of goodness has been an unfailing source of comfort to the church of God from that day to this.
What was promised to Israel applies also to institutions established for God's glory, whose experience of His goodness can make His name known and honored among the nations. The good and prosperity God gives can make His work a praise throughout the earth, as seen in a sanitarium whose growth through the people's donations and the wisdom God gave its workers displays His blessing.
