Jeremiah 35:15
I have sent also unto you all my servants the prophets, rising up early and sending them, saying, Return ye now every man from his evil way, and amend your doings, and go not after other gods to serve them, and ye shall dwell in the land which I have given to you and to your fathers: but ye have not inclined your ear, nor hearkened unto me.
God sent all His servants the prophets to Judah, rising up early and sending them again and again to warn the people to return every man from his evil way, to amend their doings, and to go no more after other gods to serve them. If they heeded Him and turned from evil and changed their conduct and stopped serving and worshiping other gods, they would continue to dwell and remain in the land He had given to them and to their fathers and ancestors. Yet they did not incline their ear nor hearken to Him, but refused to listen despite those repeated and persistent warnings.
That long repeated sending was His patient appeal for repentance before bringing judgment. Their refusal stood in contrast to the Rechabites' obedience to their father, which was commended as the example of faithfulness God's people should have shown. Because they would not heed this repeated counsel, there came upon them the threatened judgment God had warned about and announced against Judah and Jerusalem, namely captivity.
The verse also shows that even people who have received great light can repeat the disobedience of ancient Israel. They do so by rejecting divine instruction despite repeated warnings. In its place they follow their own impulses rather than listening to God.
