Jeremiah 36:10

Then read Baruch in the book the words of Jeremiah in the house of the LORD, in the chamber of Gemariah the son of Shaphan the scribe, in the higher court, at the entry of the new gate of the LORD’s house, in the ears of all the people.

Baruch read Jeremiah's written words aloud in the house of the Lord, in the temple, in the hearing of all the people. The words so read were a reproof to ancient Israel, which would not receive them. That same roll was afterward read to the king, but he and his servants rejected it and burned and destroyed the scroll. Destroying the scroll could not destroy God's message, for it was written again with more added.

The chapter to which this public reading belongs stands as a warning to Battle Creek that the same kind of rejection of God's messages would occur in later times.
