Jeremiah 36:18

Then Baruch answered them, He pronounced all these words unto me with his mouth, and I wrote them with ink in the book.

The verse records direct dictation, with Jeremiah pronouncing every word with his mouth and Baruch writing them with ink in the book or scroll. The roll gathered all the words spoken to Jeremiah from the days of Josiah, written as reproofs so the house of Judah would hear the evil purposed against them and every man would return from his evil way that iniquity and sin might be forgiven. After Baruch answered the princes' question about how he wrote the words, they told him and Jeremiah to hide themselves where no one would know.

After Baruch read the roll to the people and to the princes, it was laid up and then read to King Jehoiakim in his winter house. After three or four leaves were read he cut it with a penknife and burned it leaf by leaf until all was consumed in the fire on the hearth. He and his servants showed no fear, with garments unrent, though Elnathan and Delaiah and Gemariah pleaded that he not burn it, and the reproofs were not received.

God then commanded another roll to be written containing all the former words. Upon Jehoiakim was pronounced loss of an heir to sit on David's throne, exposure of his dead body to heat by day and frost by night, and punishment of him and his seed and his servants and Jerusalem and Judah with all the pronounced evil because they did not hearken. Jehoiakim's burning of the written warning is virtually repeated by those who reject the messages of the Spirit of God, yet as then the messages of warning are repeated.
