Jeremiah 36:9

And it came to pass in the fifth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah, in the ninth month, that they proclaimed a fast before the LORD to all the people in Jerusalem, and to all the people that came from the cities of Judah unto Jerusalem.

In the fifth year of Jehoiakim son of Josiah king of Judah, in the ninth month, a fast before the Lord was proclaimed to all the people in Jerusalem and to all who came from the cities of Judah to Jerusalem, and multitudes were assembling at the temple on that national fast day. Jeremiah was still a prisoner and unable to go himself, so he sent Baruch to read aloud there in the temple gathering. What Baruch read was the roll of parchment he had written at Jeremiah's dictation, containing all the words of the Lord against Israel and Judah and all the nations from the days of Josiah until that day.

That roll gave solemn reproof for sin and warning of the sure outcome of apostasy, with an earnest appeal to renounce evil, in hope that each one would present supplication before the Lord and return from his evil way because great was the anger and fury pronounced against them. The public reading connected with this fast brought God's written message before King Jehoiakim, who cut it apart with a knife and burned it in the fire. That burning did not destroy it, for the message was written again with much more added besides. To reject or destroy God's message does not end it, but the rejection is recorded and confirms the message.
