Jeremiah 37:7
Thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel; Thus shall ye say to the king of Judah, that sent you unto me to enquire of me; Behold, Pharaoh’s army, which is come forth to help you, shall return to Egypt into their own land. Thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel; Thus shall ye say to the king of Judah, that sent you unto me to enquire of me; Behold, Pharaoh’s army, which is come forth to help you, shall return to Egypt into their own land.
The Egyptian army advanced out of the south to relieve Judah, and at its approach the Chaldeans broke off the siege of Jerusalem and withdrew for a time. That pause in the pressure gave King Zedekiah a brief surge of hope that the city might yet escape. In that moment of relief he sent a messenger to Jeremiah asking the prophet to pray for the nation. The divine answer was that Pharaoh's army, though it had come forth professedly to help Judah, would not rescue Jerusalem but would return to its own land in Egypt.
